What is the Clean City Awards Scheme?

The scheme was set up in 1994 to develop partnerships with all types of City businesses by raising the profile of responsible waste management. It recognised and rewarded good practice by encouraging businesses to 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle'.

The Clean City Awards Scheme 2024

You can apply for awards in:

  • Air Quality and Climate Action

  • Communication and Engagement

  • Resource and Circular Economy

  • Plastic Free City

Only members can apply for awards.

Within these award categories you will gain a Bronze, Silver or Gold award. You may also apply to be the Category Winner by answering some additional questions. There is also a chance for you to be nominated to win a Chairman’s Cup Award which will be judged within your business size category.

We welcome Small businesses (up to 100 employees on site), Large businesses (more than 100 employees on site) and Facilities Management companies located within the City of London.


Aims

Aims of the scheme

  • Promote good sustainability practices across a variety of areas

  • Encourage work towards better air quality and towards climate action

  • Increase engagement and communications about sustainability

  • Promote how to manage resources better and transition towards circular economy practices

  • Reduce reliance on single use plastics via the Plastic Free City

  • Encourage, recognise and reward best practices in high profile areas of air quality, climate action, resource use and Plastic Free City

  • Encourage City businesses to take pride in their surroundings

  • Provide a forum for City businesses to engage with one another and exchange initiatives, both within the City and beyond
